Showcase Nantgarw XPlus Screen Launch Event

The Showcase Nantgarw cinema launched their brand new XPlus screen on Thursday night and I was kindly invited to the VIP launch and to watch Mission Impossible - Rouge Nation on the new screen at their cinema just outside of Cardiff!
Although I work for a media (mainly film production) company, studied film and absolutely love cinematography, I don't often go to the cinema (I know, I know...). However, when I received the invite to the new Showcase screen, I was very intrigued and wanted to find out more.
We headed over to Showcase cinema (about 15 minutes drive from Cardiff) straight after work, and were warmly welcomed with prosecco and canap├ęs. Definitely needed those after the day I had. There was quite a big turn out including the Capital FM breakfast team and even the mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf. We felt slightly underdressed in our jumpers and trainers haha, but nevertheless the staff were very sweet and let me take some snaps as they brought the food round. Taking photos in a cinema certainly felt strange..
We then made our way to the new XPlus cinema screen to watch the brand new release of Mission Impossible; Rouge Nation. Admittedly I've never been into Mission Impossible but I was prepared to give it a shot and I was rather excited about seeing a film on the day of it's release, I don't think I've ever done that before!
Before the film started we had a brief introduction to the screen and why it's so special, they then put the cinema in complete darkness so we could experience the sound quality and impact as they played a thunderstorm. Blimey, that was impressive. I felt like I was in the storm! (Although that's pretty standard living in Wales...)
The film began and I could immediately tell why they wanted to let everyone know about this new screen; the combination of the ultra high definition visuals and the Dolby Atmos sound was incredible. With a wall to wall display and surround-sound, you felt like you were part of the movie. I was completely immersed in the film for the entire time (something I rarely am able to do!) [spoiler alert] The film was fantastic too, and I totally tried to hold my breath for 3 minutes... Safe to say that mission would have been impossible for me (!)
I'd highly recommend visiting one of the XPlus screens especially if you've grown a little tired of the standard cinema experience. Showcase now have 7 XPlus screens in the UK as they have just launched one in Reading this week too!

Images un-watermarked are not mine, however, I have been given permission to use them
